WARNING: Only use this drug if other safer medicines (e.g., permethrin, crotamiton) cannot be used or have not been effective. Do not use lindane to re-treat scabies after the first treatment does not work. Lindane can cause seizures (sometimes fatal) after prolonged or repeated use. Be cautious when using it in premature infants, patients with poorly controlled seizures, infants, children, the elderly, patients with skin conditions, and patients with low body weight. Itching may occur after successful or failed treatments. Avoid re-applying lindane for a few months after use.

USES: This medication is used to treat scabies after other medications have failed or caused side effects. It kills the mites and their eggs that cause scabies. It should not be used to prevent infestation or re-infestation.

HOW TO USE: Read the Medication Guide provided before using lindane. Do not take this drug by mouth or get it in your eyes, nose, or mouth. Rinse with water immediately if it gets in these areas. Trim your nails short and clean your skin well with warm water before applying lindane. Wait at least 1 hour after bathing before use. Apply a thin layer of lotion once over your entire body or as directed by your doctor. Use a toothbrush to apply lindane under your nails. Remove lindane lotion after 8-12 hours by washing with warm water. If you are applying it to another person, wear disposable gloves. Symptoms of scabies include intense itching and small, fine lines on the skin. Even if lindane kills all the scabies, the dead mites can still cause itching for a long time after treatment.
