It works by slowing bone loss and reducing bone pain. Etidronate is also used to prevent or treat bone problems after hip replacement surgery or spinal cord injury. It may also be used to treat osteoporosis in individuals taking corticosteroid medications or a high level of calcium in the blood associated with certain cancers. HOW TO USE: Follow the instructions closely and take on an empty stomach. Drink a full glass of water with the medication and stay upright for at least 30 minutes. Do not take with food or other medications. The dosage is based on your medical condition, weight, and response to treatment. Take this medication regularly at the same time each day. SIDE EFFECTS: Stomach upset or diarrhea may occur. Notify your doctor if these symptoms persist or worsen. Serious side effects may include new or worsening bone/joint/muscle pain, jaw pain, mental/mood changes, or signs of infection. Seek immediate medical attention if you experience severe heartburn, chest pain, difficult/painful swallowing, stomach/abdominal pain, black/tarry stools, vomit that looks like coffee grounds, or signs of a serious allergic reaction.
