Desmopressin 0.1 mg/ml Spray – Nasal (Refrigerate), DDAVP

Medication Uses, How To Use, Side Effects, Precautions, Drug Interactions, Overdose, Notes, Missed Dose, Storage USES: Desmopressin is used to control urine production. It replaces a low level of vasopressin in people with "water diabetes", head injury, or brain surgery. Desmopressin helps control increased thirst, excessive urination, and dehydration. Desmopressin nasal spray is no longer indicated for nighttime bedwetting in children due to the risk of low sodium levels. HOW TO USE: Read the patient instruction sheet before using desmopressin. Spray it in the nose 1 to 3 times a day as directed by your doctor. If the dose is more than 1 spray, give half the dose in each nostril. Keep track of the number of sprays used. Follow your doctor’s instructions for limiting fluid intake. Use this medication regularly. Contact your doctor if your condition does not improve. SIDE EFFECTS: Headache, runny/stuffy nose, nausea, upset stomach, or flushing of the face may occur. If these effects persist or worsen, notify your doctor. Desmopressin can rarely cause low sodium levels. Seek immediate medical attention if you experience symptoms such as loss of appetite, severe nausea, severe headache, muscle weakness, sudden weight gain, unusual tiredness, severe drowsiness, mental/mood changes, loss of consciousness, seizures, or shallow breathing. Serious allergic reactions to this drug are rare. Seek immediate medical attention if you have symptoms such as rash, itching/swelling, severe dizziness, or trouble breathing. This is not a complete list of side effects. Contact your doctor for medical advice about side effects. PRECAUTIONS: Before using desmopressin, tell your doctor or pharmacist if you are allergic to it or if you have any other allergies. This medication should not be used if you have certain medical conditions. Talk to your doctor or pharmacist about your medical history, especially if you have high blood pressure, heart disease, conditions that may increase your risk of fluid/mineral imbalance, or bleeding/clotting problems. Limit alcohol consumption while using this medication. Changes inside the nose may affect how well desmopressin nasal spray is absorbed. Tell your doctor if you have any changes inside the nose. Notify your doctor if you develop any illness that can cause water/mineral imbalance or if you experience conditions that require increased fluid intake. This medication may be harmful during pregnancy and may pass into breast milk. Consult your doctor before using it. DRUG INTERACTIONS: Keep a list of all the products you use and share it with your doctor and pharmacist. This document does not contain all possible drug interactions. Tell your doctor or pharmacist about all the products you take, including narcotic pain relievers, nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, psychiatric medicines, drugs to treat seizures, antidepressants, tolvaptan, tricyclic antidepressants, and diuretics.

STORAGE: Store in the refrigerator. When traveling, it may remain at room temperature for up to 3 weeks. Discard after 3 weeks. Keep the bottle upright. Do not store in the bathroom.
