It works by stopping bacterial growth. This antibiotic only treats bacterial infections and will not work for viral infections (e.g., common cold, flu). Misuse or overuse of any antibiotic can decrease its effectiveness. HOW TO USE: Take this medication with a meal or snack, usually every 12 hours, or as directed by your doctor. Antibiotics work best when the amount of medicine in your body is kept constant. Therefore, take this drug at evenly spaced intervals. Continue taking this medication until you finish the full prescribed amount, even if symptoms improve. Stopping the medication too early may allow bacteria to continue growing and cause a relapse of the infection. Inform your doctor if your condition persists or worsens. SIDE EFFECTS: Diarrhea, nausea, or vomiting may occur during the first few days as your body adjusts to the medication. Take with food to minimize stomach upset. Contact your doctor or pharmacist if these effects persist or worsen. Serious side effects are rare but seek immediate medical attention if they occur. This medication may rarely cause a severe intestinal condition. Do not use anti-diarrhea products or narcotic pain medications if you have symptoms. Use of this medication for prolonged periods may result in oral thrush or a new vaginal yeast infection. Contact your doctor if you notice any new symptoms. Symptoms of overdose may include severe stomach pain, vomiting, persistent diarrhea, a decrease in urine, or seizures. NOTES: Do not share this medication with others. Use for the prescribed condition only. Regular monitoring may be necessary during prolonged treatment. MISSED DOSE: Take the missed dose as soon as you remember. If it is near the time of the next dose, skip the missed dose and resume your usual schedule. Do not double the dose. STORAGE: Store at or below room temperature away from light and moisture. Keep out of reach of children and pets. Properly discard when expired or no longer needed.
