Paclitaxel – Injection, Onxol, Taxol

WARNING: Paclitaxel may cause serious allergic reactions. Seek immediate medical attention if you develop signs of an allergic reaction. This medication may also cause a blood disorder (decreased bone marrow function). If you develop signs of infection, notify your doctor immediately.

USES: Paclitaxel is used to treat various types of cancer by slowing or stopping cancer cell growth.

HOW TO USE: Read the Patient Information Leaflet before using paclitaxel. This medication is given by injection into a vein under the supervision of a healthcare professional. Dosage is based on your medical condition, body size, and response to treatment.

SIDE EFFECTS: Nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, mouth sores, muscle/joint pain, numbness/tingling/burning of the hands/feet, flushing, dizziness, or drowsiness may occur. Temporary hair loss may also occur. This medication may infrequently cause changes to blood pressure and heart rate. Tell your doctor immediately if you experience serious side effects such as signs of anemia, easy bruising/bleeding, fainting, confusion, pain/redness/swelling/weakness of the arms/legs, calf pain/swelling that is warm to the touch, coughing up blood, persistent nausea/vomiting, stomach/abdominal pain, yellowing eyes/skin, dark urine, vision/hearing changes, or seizures. Other possible side effects include irritation or skin reactions at the injection site.

PRECAUTIONS: Before using paclitaxel, inform your doctor about any allergies you have. This medication should be used with caution in patients with certain medical conditions. Use caution when performing activities that require alertness. Follow your doctor’s instructions regarding vaccinations and contact with people who have recently received polio or flu vaccines. To prevent the spread of infections, wash your hands frequently. Use caution with sharp objects to avoid injury. Use birth control measures while using this medication and consult your doctor if your partner becomes pregnant. This medication is not recommended during pregnancy or while breastfeeding.
