It may also be used with other diabetes medications. Controlling high blood sugar helps prevent kidney damage, blindness, nerve problems, limbs loss, and sexual function problems. Proper control of diabetes may lessen your risk of a heart attack or stroke. Glyburide belongs to the class of drugs known as sulfonylureas. It lowers blood sugar by causing the release of your body’s natural insulin. HOW TO USE: Read the Patient Information Leaflet before taking glyburide. Follow your doctor’s instructions carefully. If you are already taking another anti-diabetic drug, follow your doctor’s directions for stopping the old drug and starting glyburide. Use this medication regularly to get the most benefit from it. Tell your doctor if your condition does not improve or worsens. SIDE EFFECTS: Nausea, heartburn, stomach fullness, and weight gain may occur. If any of these effects persist or worsen, tell your doctor or pharmacist promptly. Tell your doctor right away if you have any serious side effects. This medication can cause low blood sugar. To help prevent low blood sugar, eat meals on a regular schedule, and do not skip meals. Symptoms of high blood sugar include thirst, increased urination, confusion, drowsiness, flushing, rapid breathing, and fruity breath odor. If these symptoms occur, tell your doctor immediately. A serious allergic reaction to this drug is rare. If you notice any symptoms of a serious allergic reaction, get medical help right away. PRECAUTIONS: Before taking glyburide, tell your doctor if you are allergic to it or if you have any other allergies. Discuss your medical history, especially of: liver disease, kidney disease, thyroid disease, hormonal conditions, electrolyte imbalance, nervous system problem. Do not operate machinery or perform activities that require alertness or clear vision until you are sure you can perform them safely. Limit alcohol intake. It may be harder to control your blood sugar when your body is stressed. Avoid prolonged sun exposure and use sunscreen when outdoors. Before surgery, inform your doctor or dentist about all the products you use. Older adults may be more sensitive to the side effects of this drug. During pregnancy, use this medication only when clearly needed. It is unknown if this medication passes into breast milk. DRUG INTERACTIONS: Keep a list of all the products you use and share it with your doctor and pharmacist. Bosentan may interact with this drug. Many drugs can affect your blood sugar levels. Check your blood sugar levels regularly and inform your doctor of any symptoms. Beta-blocker medications may prevent the fast heartbeat associated with low blood sugar. Check the labels of all your medications.
