Famotidine is an H2 histamine blocker that reduces stomach acid. It prevents and treats heartburn and other symptoms caused by excess stomach acid. Check the label for ingredients, as they may have changed. Taking the wrong product can be harmful.

To treat heartburn and acid indigestion, swallow 1 tablet or capsule with water as needed. Chewable tablets can be completely chewed and swallowed. Famotidine can be taken with or without food. To prevent heartburn and acid indigestion, take it 15-60 minutes before consuming food or drink that can cause indigestion. Do not exceed 2 tablets in 24 hours. Follow all directions on the product package. If unsure, consult your doctor or pharmacist.

If symptoms continue or do not improve after 14 days of taking this medication, stop usage and call your doctor. Do not take it for more than 14 consecutive days without consulting your doctor.

Side effects may include headache, dizziness, constipation, or diarrhea. Serious side effects are rare, but seek immediate medical attention if they occur. These can include easy bruising/bleeding, irregular heartbeat, signs of infection, mental/mood changes, or seizure.
