Your doctor may recommend that you stay in the hospital for monitoring and emergency medical treatment. Talk with your doctor about the benefits and risks of taking this medication. USES: This medication is used to treat certain types of irregular heartbeat. It restores normal heart rhythm and maintains a regular heartbeat. Disopyramide is an anti-arrhythmic drug that blocks electrical signals in the heart. Treating irregular heartbeat can reduce the risk of blood clots, heart attack, or stroke. HOW TO USE: Take this medication by mouth with or without food as prescribed. Immediate-release form: take it 4 times daily. Extended-release form: take it twice a day. Swallow extended-release capsules whole. Do not crush or chew them unless instructed. Dosage is based on age, kidney and liver function, medical condition, and response to treatment. Take this medication regularly. Tell your doctor if your condition does not improve or worsens. SIDE EFFECTS: Dry mouth, constipation, nausea, abdominal pain, blurred vision, dry nose, and urination problems may occur. Tell your doctor if any of these effects persist or worsen. Serious side effects may occur. Seek immediate medical attention for fainting, faster/irregular heartbeat, or severe dizziness. Allergic reactions are rare but serious. Get medical attention for rash, itching/swelling, severe dizziness, or trouble breathing. This is not a complete list of side effects. Contact your doctor for medical advice. PRECAUTIONS: Inform your doctor of any allergies. This drug may make you dizzy. Do not drive or operate machinery until you know how it affects you. Before surgery, tell your doctor or dentist about your medication. This drug may affect heart rhythm. Inform your doctor of all your medications and medical conditions. Low blood sugar may occur. If you have diabetes, monitor your blood sugar and adjust your diabetes medication as needed. This medication may pass into breast milk. Consult your doctor before breastfeeding. DRUG INTERACTIONS: This medication may interact with other drugs, including calcium channel blockers. Inform your doctor of all medications you use.
