Beclomethasone – Nasal, Beconase Aq, Vancenase Aq

Medication Uses: Beclomethasone prevents and treats seasonal and year-round allergy symptoms. It also prevents the return of growths in the nose after surgery. Beclomethasone reduces inflammation in the nasal passages.

How to Use: Read the Patient Information Leaflet provided by your pharmacist before you start using this medication and each time you get a refill. Follow the illustrated directions for the proper use of this medication. If you have any questions, ask your doctor or pharmacist.

This medication is for use in the nose, usually 1-2 sprays in each nostril twice a day or as directed by your doctor. Avoid spraying this medication in your eyes. Gently blow your nose before using it. Shake the container well before each use.

To use the spray, first remove the safety clip and plastic cap. Close one nostril by pressing it with your finger. Tilt your head slightly forward and, keeping the bottle upright, carefully insert the nasal applicator into the other nostril. Press down firmly on the pump to deliver the prescribed number of sprays. Do not spray directly onto the middle wall of your nose (nasal septum). Breathe in gently through your nose and out through your mouth. Repeat in the other nostril. Wipe the applicator tip and replace the plastic cap and safety clip. Avoid blowing your nose for 15 minutes after using this medication.

Dosage is based on your medical condition and response to treatment. Younger children may need a smaller dose and help from an adult to use this medication properly. Use this medication regularly to get the most benefit from it. To help you remember, use it at the same times each day. Do not increase your dose or use it more frequently than directed. Some people may feel the effects of this medication within 3 days, but it may take up to 2 weeks for the full benefit to take effect.

Keep track of the number of sprays used from the bottle. Discard the bottle after using the specified number of sprays. Do not pour any remaining medication into another container. Follow the package instructions to unblock the spray tip if needed and to clean the spray bottle.

Tell your doctor if your condition does not improve after 3 weeks or if it worsens.

Side Effects: Nose/throat dryness or irritation, sneezing, nosebleeds, and unpleasant taste/smell may occur. If any of these side effects persist or worsen, tell your doctor or pharmacist.

Tell your doctor immediately if any rare but serious side effects occur, such as loss of taste or smell, or pain/sores in your nose. Rarely, this medication may be absorbed into the bloodstream, which can lead to side effects. Tell your doctor right away if any of the following side effects occur: unusual/extreme tiredness, weight loss, headache, swelling ankles/feet, increased thirst/urination, or vision problems.

Corticosteroids may weaken the body’s ability to fight infections. Tell your doctor immediately if you have any signs of infection. A serious allergic reaction to this drug is rare. Seek immediate medical attention if you notice any symptoms of a serious allergic reaction.

Precautions: Before using beclomethasone, tell your doctor or pharmacist if you are allergic to it or if you have any other allergies. Consult your doctor before using this medication if you have eye problems, infections, or recent nose problems. Avoid contact with people who have infections that may spread to others. Tell your doctor if you are using this medication and need surgery or emergency treatment.

During pregnancy, this medication should be used only when clearly needed. It is unknown if this drug passes into breast milk. Consult your doctor before breast-feeding.

Storage: Store at room temperature between 59-86 degrees F with the safety clip and protective cap in place. Keep all medicines away from children and pets. Do not flush medications down the toilet or pour them into a drain. Properly discard this product when it is expired or no longer needed.
