Acetaminophen/pamabrom/pyrilamine

Acetaminophen is a pain reliever, pamabrom is a diuretic, and pyrilamine is an antihistamine. The combination relieves various menstrual symptoms including cramps, backache, headache, bloating, water-weight gain, minor aches and pains, and irritability.

The three drugs work in the following ways:

• Acetaminophen relieves menstrual cramps, backache, headache, and minor pains by blocking pain impulse generation and inhibiting prostaglandin synthesis in the central nervous system. Acetaminophen also reduces fever by acting on the hypothalamus region of the brain.
• Pamabrom reduces water retention and bloating during menstruation by increasing urine output.
• Pyrilamine inhibits histamine activity by blocking H1 histamine receptors. It produces sedative and calming effects.

Warnings

• Do not use if hypersensitive to any of the ingredients.
• Do not take with any other drug containing acetaminophen.
• Do not take with monoamine oxidase inhibitor (MAOI) type antidepressant medications.
• Acetaminophen can damage the liver with prolonged high-dose use.
• Use with caution in patients with G6PD enzyme deficiency.
• Use with caution in patients with certain conditions: cardiovascular disease, diabetes, liver disease, increased intraocular pressure or glaucoma, prostate enlargement, and thyroid dysfunction.

Side Effects

Common side effects include:

• Hives
• Itchy rash
• Swelling under the skin and mucous membranes
• Swelling of the voice box
• Allergic reaction
• Blood disorders
• Discolored urine
• Blurred vision
• Sleepiness
• Dry mouth

• Serious heart symptoms
• Severe headache, confusion, slurred speech, severe weakness, vomiting

• 500 mg/25 mg/15 mg

Gel cap

Tablet

• 500 mg/25 mg/15 mg

Adult:

• 1-2 capsule/tablet/gel cap orally every 4-6 hours as needed

Pediatric:

• Safety and efficacy not established

Overdose:

• Overdose of acetaminophen/pamabrom/pyrilamine can result in liver damage. Seek immediate medical help.
• Overdose treatment may include administration of N-acetylcysteine.

Drug Interactions

Inform your doctor of all medications you are taking. Never change the dosage of any medication without your doctor’s recommendation.
